Jason and Edna Get Married!

On June 6, 2013 I again had the opportunity to be in Hilton Head for a wedding. On this occasion it was the wedding of Edna Peacock and Jason Stanley. There are a few things about this wedding that were memorable for me.

First of all, there was the weather! That particular day had rain, rain, rain. I even took a screen shot of the weather radar shortly before the ceremony.

This provides a valuable lesson whether for wedding planning or for life in general. Since things don’t always go according to plan, it is a good thing to have a Plan B.

In this case Plan B involved a venue change from Old Fort Pub to Windows on the Waterway. Luckily, both venues are managed by Celebration Events and Catering

Dominique and her team from Celebrations made sure everything went smoothly. I have never had any problems with any ceremony of theirs!

Secondly, both Edna and Jason had been in a previous marriage. Divorce can be a painful and difficult thing. One of the key things here is to learn from it. We can become better people if we learn the lessons we are meant to learn in life. Both Edna and Jason have learned and are well suited for each other.

They met some four years ago while working at Walmart. With their first date being at a bookstore in the mall, they immediately knew that they clicked. They talked for hours that day and saw compatibility with similar beliefs, values, and morals. On this rainy June day many of their friends would make the trip from Bentonville, Arkansas to be at their wedding.

Third, Jason and I were able to talk a good bit before the ceremony. He was getting not only a new wife this day but also a new family. His situation as a step-dad is not unlike my own. It was obvious that he loves Isabel and Cooper and that they love him.

In the ceremony, he and the children exchanged promises to each other. He then gave them gifts and spoke a brief private word to each of them individually. I then invited everyone present to extend their hands as we prayed a blessing over this family.

Edna and Jason used a more contemporary version of vows. It was both memorable and meaningful.

“I, Jason, TAKE YOU, Edna,
TO BE MY WIFE,
MY CONSTANT FRIEND, MY FAITHFUL PARTNER
AND MY LOVE FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.
IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD, OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
I OFFER YOU MY SOLEMN VOW
TO BE YOUR FAITHFUL PARTNER
IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH,
IN GOOD TIMES AND IN BAD,
IN JOY AS WELL AS IN SORROW.
I PROMISE TO LOVE YOU UNCONDITIONALLY,
TO SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR GOALS,
TO HONOR AND RESPECT YOU,
TO LAUGH WITH YOU AND CRY WITH YOU,
AND TO CHERISH YOU FOR AS LONG AS WE BOTH SHALL LIVE.”

AND MY LOVE FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.

It was truly wonderful to be a part of this celebration.

I say one more time: Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Jason and Edna Stanley!
